
ertex ESG is produced by heating glass to a predetermined temperature and then rapidly cooling it down again. In this process a permanent tension distribution is created within the glass. This substantially increases the robustness of the glass with regards to mechanical and thermal stresses. Nonetheless, if these higher stress resistances are exceeded to the extent that the exsisting equilibrium is locally disturbed, a spontaneous breakage of the tempered glass occurs. The thermally created tension in the glass now causes a rapid disintegration and further crumbling of the exsisting fracture . This results in the formation of many small, harmless blunt edged pieces of glass. Mechanical StrengthThrough the generated pressure-tension relationships that exsist in tempered glass, the material aquires a very high degree of bending/tension stress (mean value of 120N/mm² with 6mm glass), (Calculation value for static proof : 50N/mm²).
